Recommended Dance Classes for Ages

5 Years to Teen

Ages 5 to 6 Years

Intro to Jazz (5-6 yrs)

Jazz is an exciting and ever-evolving dance form full of rhythm, syncopation, passion and life. This class will introduce students to many jazz styles. Class will focus on teaching basic body isolations of the head, shoulders, ribcage, feet and arms and will layer jazz style over the traditional technique of ballet.

Taplettes (5-6 yrs)

Traditional tap is taught in our beginning classes. As students progress, new popular forms of tap are introduced and studied.

Pre Ballet (5-6 yrs)

An introduction to ballet with beginning development of ballet concepts including turn out, coordination, spatial awareness and a specific focus on class etiquette. Students will begin positions of the feet, and introductory movement vocabulary.

Hippity Hop (5-6 yrs)

Students will learn movement terminology and historical facts about urban dance culture. This class uses R&B and other popular music of today. Dancers are introduced to the elements of freestyle and the styles that influence it such as popping, locking and b-boying.

Musical Theatre (5-8 yrs)

Students learn how to bring characterization to a song and choreography, define a character, vocal techniques, and become acquainted with various musical theatre techniques and styles. Students will also create and build their own props. All musical theatre students are recommended to take additional ballet, jazz, and voice classes. At least one additional dance technique class is strongly recommended.
Ages 7 years and Up


    Musical Theatre (5-8 yrs)

    Students learn how to bring characterization to a song and choreography, define a character, vocal techniques, and become acquainted with various musical theatre techniques and styles. Students will also create and build their own props. All musical theatre students are recommended to take additional ballet, jazz, and voice classes. At least one additional dance technique class is strongly recommended.

    Ballet 1 (7+ yrs)

    The goal of Ballet Level 1 is to impart the fundamentals of classical ballet. Class will focus on basic ballet technique, proper body alignment, French terminology and musicality. Students will be introduced to elementary barre and center work.

    Tap 1 (7+ yrs)

    This class teaches tap techniques combining both rhythmic and Broadway style. Classes teach technique aimed at achieving good, clear sounds, while encouraging individual expression through rhythm. Dancers learn about musical structure and develop improvisation skills.

    Jazz 1 (7+ yrs)

    Classes start with a warm-up including technique (plie, tendu, etc.), stretching and strengthening. Across the floor skills are taught and perfected as well as a combination to primarily pop music.

    Hip Hop 1 (7+ yrs)

    Hip Hop is typically an upbeat class. This class uses current hip-hop music as a background to the different styles of dance such as: breaking, locking, and popping. Hip Hop is a high-energy class and fun for dancers and non-dancers.

    Audition Prep (7+ yrs)

    A new class designed for performers who want to dance and dancers who want to sing. This Triple Threat Training will focus on combining choreography with singing, while bringing out each student’s stage light to create engaging and honest performers. We will be covering a wide variety of the musical theatre repertoire for a fun and educational class!

    Acro Dance (7+ yrs)

    Based on the floor exercises of gymnastics, acro is tumbling, contortion, and dance combined.

    Ballet 2 (8+ yrs)

    As with each level, students are invited to Ballet Level 2 after they have demonstrated full understanding of the previous level. Body alignment and muscle awareness will determine progress. This class will focus on positions of the arms, direction of the body and increased movement vocabulary.

    Tap 2 (8+ yrs)

    Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. The class emphasis is on developing proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, and having fun.

    Jazz 2 (8+ yrs)

    Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer.

    Jazz Funk (8+ yrs)

    Combines the study of traditional jazz and today's video jazz dance styles as seen in music videos by such recording artists as Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez. Jazz dance gives the student flexibility, strength, and understanding of body alignment.

    Leaps and Turns (8+ yrs)

    Leaps and Turns is a whole class dedicated to tricks. In this class we really work on the things that will help kids get on their school dance teams or our dance company. Leaps and Turns is not about the artistic side of dance but is about the athletic, physical side of dance.

    Hip hop 2 (8+ yrs)

    Hip Hop is typically an upbeat class. This class uses current hip hop music as a background to the different styles of dance such as breaking, locking, and popping. Hip Hop is a high-energy class and fun for dancers and non-dancers.

    Stretch & Flex (8+ yrs)

    Flex is open to anyone interested in extreme flexibility. Class focuses on splits, oversplits, and back bending. Variations for all levels are provided.

    Ballet 3 (9+ yrs)

    In Ballet Level 3, attention is paid to the proper extension of the legs and shape of the feet, developing movement sequences, port de bras and balance. Students will see an increase in difficulty in barre and center work Students begin focus on repetition and retention.

    Tap 3 (9+ yrs)

    Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement

    Jazz 3 (9+ yrs)

    Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations.

    Pre-Pointe/Pointe (10+ yrs)

    Pointe class may be taken by students who are not yet on pointe to further develop and strengthen the muscles necessary to go on pointe.Readiness for pointe work is determined by each student’s strength and physical development, not by their age. The instructor will advise parents when a student has the necessary strength and maturity to go on pointe. Pointe class may be taken only with the permission of the instructor.

    Kids Fitness (12-15 yrs)

    Fiercely fun dance workout to the beat of pop, rock, and hip-hop music.

    Heels Class (13+ yrs)

    This class teaches jazz technique in heels. Musical theater & traditional jazz styles taught, including Rockette style, Fosse, as well as music video jazz.

    Open Teen/Adult Jazz (16+ yrs)

    A beginner-to-intermediate level class that will get you moving and in shape. This fun and energized class offers stretch and jazz progressions.

    Ages 8 years and Up
